Benefits to Mindfulness at Work

Mindful Mondays

Don’t do any task in order to get it over with.

Resolve to do each job in a relaxed way, with all your attention.

Enjoy and be one with your work.

says Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, teacher, author, poet and peace activist, Thích Nhất Hạnh.

What are the benefits to mindfulness at work?

Are there benefits at all?

Mindfulness works for individuals. Does it work in a numbers-driven workplace?

New studies point toward three benefits to cultivating moment-to-moment awareness in the workplace.

  1. Mindfulness builds Self-Confidence – D. Amar and his colleagues at the University of Westminster put a sample of senior managers through a 12-week Vipassana meditation program. They found that meditation training enhanced the self-confidence of the participants as well individual skills such as inspiring a shared vision and demonstrating moral intelligence. (Results publishedin the Academy of Management Proceedings).
  2. Mindfulness affects well-being and performance – Researchers found that the more mindful the supervisor, the lower the employees’ emotional exhaustion and higher the job satisfaction.
  3. Mindfulness training has proven benefits – it reforms the structure of the brain, strengthens the immune system, improves social relationships, reduces stress and increases well-being and happiness. Mindfulness training helps focus the mind and stay calm.

Let us try Mindfulness Meditation. A few minutes each day is all that it takes.

The internet is replete with Mindfulness Meditation techniques – the ones by Jon Kabat Zinn, Jack Kornfield and others are recommended by experts. You can choose one that works for you.
